Old Trafford: Finally the official announcement has come and match will resume tomorrow at 10:30 Am.India’s World Cup Semi-finals clash against New Zealand has been suspended for the day and match will resume on Wednesday.
New Zealand were 211/5 after 46.1 overs with Ross Taylor unbeaten at 67 when rain halted play.Rain played hide and seek for the better part of the day and fans had to wait for long time until the umpires called to stop the play.
If the match is washed out on the reserve day too then India will automatically qualify for the finals courtesy of accumulating the higher number of points in the group stages.
The game will continue were it was halted and New Zealand will play remaining 3.5 overs and the Kiwis will try to get as much runs possible off 23 balls and hope the pitch remains helpful for their bowlers when India come to bat.
Earlier New Zealand had won the toss and elected to bat first.Indian bowlers got off to flying start with Jasprit Bumrah removing Kiwi opener Martin Guptill in the 4th over.New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson(67) led the recovery but Indian bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
After a very disciplined Indian bowling performance, Team India will hope that the top orders will do the job when the play resume tomorrow.
The winner of the first semi-final will take on the winner of Thursday Semi-final featuring defending champions Australia and hosts England at Edgbaston in Sunday’s final at Lord’s.
