India started their World Cup 2019 campaign with a convincing win against South Africa by six wickets at the Rose Bowl, Southampton.
A superb innings by Rohit Sharma and a sensational bowling by Yuzvendra Chahal guided India to a very comfortable win.
Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 122 and Chahal took four crucial wickets to hand South Africa their consecutive third defeat of the tournament.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first and managed to make 227/9 in 50 overs, Bumrah blasting out the openers and Chahal eviscerating the middle order.
India started with a shaky start by loosing Shikar Dhawan very early, but Rohit Sharma’s uncharacteristic 23rd ODI century steered India to a easy victory and put an enormous pressure on South Africa.
India will play their next match against Australia on June 9.
