Air India Express Flight from Dubai skids off runway at Mangalore airport

An Air India Express Boeing 737 aircraft IX384 that took off from Dubai skidded off the runway at Mangalore International Airport during landing on Sunday evening with 183 passengers on board.

An Air India Spokesman said that all the passengers are safe and they all have been deplaned using step ladder and the aircraft was brought to a safer place after the incident, meanwhile the engineers were assessing the plane and the runway is temporarily closed.

Tailwind, wet runway and inadequate braking action has been reported to be the cause of the skidding.

Mangalore airport is considered as one of the dangerous airport in the world and is located on a hill and has a table top runway.

In May 2010 Air India Express overshot the same runway and crash landed killing 158 people.
